My God, You have revealed to me many things – things that are too great and wondrous to believe.

In the weakness of my flesh and conformity of my mind to the teachings of the world, I hear myself say these things cannot be; they are too wonderful to be.

In the weakness of my flesh and the conformity of my mind to the teachings of the world, I say to You this is how things are; You do not understand; You perceive falsely.

You say I am righteous.

• I say, no. I am a sinner.

You say I need not fear man, nor beast, nor storm, nor demon.

• I say, no. They are greatly to be feared; they will overwhelm me.

You say I am beloved family.

• I say no. I am a worthless wretch.

You say my value comes only from You.

• I say no. My value comes from the opinion of men and the quality of my deeds.

My God, You have revealed to me many things that are too marvelous to believe.

In the weakness of my flesh and the conformity of my mind to the ways of the world I cannot believe them; my mind will not accept them.

Yet in You, O’ Lord, there is only truth and there is no lie.

If You have spoken, Lord, so must it be.

I cry out to You, My God, aid me in the transformation of my thought, the renewal of my mind.

Abandon me not, O’ Lord, to my old ways. Help me in my unbelief to believe in Yours.

• Therefore, I am righteous and not a sinner.

You say, O’ Holy One, I need not fear man, nor beast, nor storm, nor demon.

• Therefore, I need fear not; they cannot overwhelm the One in whom I seek shelter.

You say, O’ Most High, I am beloved family.

• Therefore, I am beloved family and not a worthless wretch.

You say, O’ Creator of all, my value comes from my Creator.

• Therefore, my value comes from my Creator and not from men or the quality of my deeds.

My God, You have revealed to me many things too wondrous to believe.

My God, with Your help, in Your strength, I will believe.
