The past few weeks have been busy with end-of-school-year activities, but today I decided to try another Five-Minute Friday post. Every week on this site, a topic is posted. The idea is to turn that internal editor off and write for five minutes straight. Then you post your blog and link up with others who have done the same.
Topic: Benefit
Five Minutes Starts Now…
It’s so easy to think of children as a chore, as obstacles that prevent you from doing what you really wish you could be doing, from pursuing your dreams, engaging more with your favorite hobbies, etc.
But I’ve found there are so many more beautiful benefits, so many beautiful blessings, to having children. So here are just a few from the top of my head.
- New friends – both the children and the other parents they introduce you to in their quest to have playdates
- New hobbies – their interests are different than yours and they excitedly pull you along and inspire you to learn more about the subjects and activities they enjoy
- They love you so much, even when you make mistakes
- They humble you – to see so much love in such a small being, learning to apologize to such small people when your anger gets the best of you, when you forget things, when you…
- They show you the world in a new way as their little eyes take in its wonders for the first time, as their imagination turns simple things like cardboard boxes into any number of contraptions…
Stop! End of Five Minutes
Topic Continued…
Children don’t hinder our lives. They expand them, help us grow mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and even physically as we try to keep up with their energy or come alongside them in their favorite activities. They point us to God as we seek His strength and wisdom. They fill our lives with love, joy, and wonder.
There are so many more benefits I could add to this list, but the few I’ve included are enough to remind me how great it is to have kids and how incredibly thankful I am to be a mother.
What would you add to this list?
I agree! Children add so much to our lives. I am very thankful to be a mother and grandmother.
