From a professional standpoint, Crystal Bowman is a bestselling, award-winning author of more than 100 books for children. With her family she’s a wife, mother, and a grandmother with seven “huggable grandkids.”

Although she has written four nonfiction books for women, most of Crystal’s work consists of picture books, board books, and devotions for children.

Her latest book is an endearing board book that features adorable mommy and baby animals giving each other hugs.

What inspired you to write this book?

“I love the current trend of emotive books for little ones, to remind them how much they are loved as well as focusing on the importance of physical affection.”

Picture Books Require Research!

As an author, I was deeply impressed by the fact that, as deceptively simple as this book seems, Crystal did a fair bit of research for it.

“I learned that kids need 8 hugs a day to be happy and 12 to thrive,” Bowman shared. “That’s an important message for parents.”

How did writing this book change or impact you?

“I wish I had hugged my kids more while I was raising them, but now I have seven grandkids to hug and squeeze each time I see them.”

What are some of the themes woven throughout the book?

“The unconditional love between parents and children as well as the need for playful and meaningful moments.”

Along those lines, Crystal hopes readers will realize the importance of physical affection to communicate a deep and loving relationship between parents and their children.
